Shared parking (also known as gaparking from gap + parking), is the practice of making existing parking space available to more than one person. Usually, gaparking uses existing gaps or spaces intended for parking cars when the owner is not using it. Existence of gaps is a consequence of living in one and working in other which makes this gap available for others to use for certain amount of hours. Gaparking allows the owner to make money or maximize utilization by making space publicly available for rent.
In most countries gaparking is available through websites that connect private parking space owner with people searching the parking lot in the area of their interest (close to their work, university) Usually the person who gaparks his property allows the tenant to park at his garage or driveway while not using.
